Sion is a Swiss town, a municipality, and the capital of the canton of Valais and of the district of Sion. Sion is a small town in central location (with 30,000 residents) known as the most sun-blessed town of Switzerland which is an ideal starting point for exploring the summer and winter holiday resorts in the Valais side valleys.
Sion is one of Switzerland’s oldest cities blending Past and future, which possess a 7,000-year history, is today the economic center of Valais and an important traffic junction with its own international airport. One of the world’s oldest playable organs is in Castle Church of Valeria from the late beginning of the 15th Century.
The several historic landmarks in the Old Town, the shopping area and the fresh, spacious and comfortable municipal facilities are especially charming. One looks a little similar to the South here. A tour to one of the several museums helps you to explore the town’s varied past.
Sion is situated in one of Switzerland’s most significant wine-growing areas. Fendant, the area in particular is well known for its white wine. It was important to carve out irrigation channels at the sides of the mountains to be able to water the plants and fields in the warm and dry valley.

Consequently, Sion is an excellent platform for visiting the summer and winter holiday resorts of the Valais and the surrounding thermal spa resorts. In winter Sion provides easy access to nearby Anzère, Crans-Montana, 4 Vallées or Val d’Hérens ski resorts.
