The legendary Swiss mountain pass – Furka Pass

Don’t you love to experience a picturesque or a truly scenic ride as your road trip. Furka Pass will be wonderful selection for a road trip by car. Furka Pass, one of the highest highways in Europe (known in French as Le Col de la Furka), is a high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps. The pass is an elevation of 2,429 metres (7,969 ft). It connects the mainlands of Switzerland: Gletsch, Valais with Realp, Uri. The Furka Oberalp Bahn line through the Furka Tunnel bypasses the pass.

James Bond movie, “Goldfinger” from 1964, was filmed here. It is no wonder as it is wonderful all-time. As the road is with slopes and rough to drive, it is not easy to ride through. Sometimes, the pass would be wide and smooth: but during nighttime or rainy season it can be very hard to drive. Summer is very suitable for the road ride. So, we are here to look for the weather and climate and let you know the safe way to ride.

Since the opening of the Furka Base Tunnel, part of a larger railroad system connecting eastern and western: between Realp and Oberwald im Goms in 1982 there is a railroad link between the cantons of Uri and Valais that operates in winter and replaced a tunnel at 2100 m. Still more attractive is the ride over the pass, by mountain bike, motorbike, automobile, or with the yellow Alpine PostBus.
