The Great St Bernard Pass – In the heart of the Swiss Alps
The Great St Bernard Pass, which lies Italian-Swiss border east of the Mont Blanc group in the southwestern Pennine Alps is the third highest road pass in Switzerland, and it lies 2,469 m (8,100 ft) above sea level. The famous pass, one of the most ancient passes through the Western Alps connects Martigny in Valais in Switzerland with Aosta in the region Aosta Valley in Italy. The pass is 74.6 km (46.35mi) running long.
The road’s winding design provides wonderful and stunning panoramic views, and as, it is very curvy it would be fun for a leisurely ride, so it pays to take it slow. It is the main important route between Geneva and Torino. As the temperature may drop as low as -30°C around the pass area, the lake in the pass is frozen for 265 days per year.
Generally, the pass is closed to traffic roughly from mid-October to early June, so you can drive up there from June to September. We will be update about traffic and further weather details on the day of travelling.
