Kunsthaus Zurich
The Kunsthaus Zürich is an art museum in Zürich, Switzerland. The most important modern collection in Zurich and attractive temporary exhibitions make the Kunsthaus a must for art lovers. After the Kunstmuseum Basel, it houses one of the most important art collections in Switzerland, assembled over the years by the local art association called Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft.
The collection spans from the Middle Ages to contemporary art, with an emphasis on Swiss Art. Lovers of art and architecture direct their eyes to the extension of the Kunsthaus Zürich. The “light-flooded cuboid” – designed by British architect David Chipperfield – has opened recently.
The museum’s collection includes major works by artists including Claude Monet (several works including an enormous water lily painting), Edvard Munch, Pablo Picasso, Jacques Lipchitz and the Swiss Alberto Giacometti. Other Swiss artists such as Johann Heinrich Füssli, Ferdinand Hodler or from recent times, Pipilotti Rist and Peter Fischli are also represented. Furthermore, works from Vincent van Gogh, Édouard Manet, Henri Matisse and René Magritte are to be found.
The extensive central hall offers new spaces for the public. A multi-functional banquet hall can also be used for concerts. In addition, the so-called “Art Garden” creates an organic connection to the surrounding neighborhood.
Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. is Legi evening: Students and teachers only pay CHF 5 for admission. Entry to the collection is free on Wednesdays.
