A long finger of a lake which points mountainous country

Lake Walen (Walensee) in eastern Switzerland connects the two cantons of St. Gallen & Glarus. Walensee forms the western end of region known as “Heidiland”.  The mountain chain of Churfirsten stands almost vertically out of the water on the northern side. The Flumserberg‘s popular winter sports and hiking region lies on the other side of the lake.

Lake Walen has presented traffic challenges since ancient times due to the steep cliffs that sometimes reach more than 1000 meters from the lake. Now the roads along the side of the lake passing through galleries and tunnels are chopped out of the rock face.

Quinten is a small beautiful car-free town, particularly popular with regular tourists because of its almost Mediterranean climate which is located near to this lake. you can only reach the town by boat or on foot.

The small village of Betlis is located in the west of Quinten. The mighty seerenbach waterfall about 720 meters high, is impressive when snow is melting or after a heavy downpour. One of Europe’s largest limestone springs. Popular Walensee Walk along the wild begins at the historic little town of Weesen at the western end of the lake.

The spa town of Amden is situated on a sunny plateau above the north shore of the lake. This alpine village above the mists becomes a friendly, family ski region in winter, a massive hiking area in the summer. Special trips available in addition to normal service, like brunch, pasta and barbecue tours.
